JNMC uses OCT technique for the first time


Aligarh Media Desk,Aligarh:Patients suffering from coronary artery diseases with acute coronary syndromes and triple vessel diseases can now be treated with the recently developed, Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT) at the Jawaharlal Nehru Medical College (JNMC), Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) as the imaging technique which helps in optimising angioplasty procedure was used for the first time at the Centre of Cardiology, JNMC during a workshop on ‘Complex Cases of Angioplasty’.

Prof Asif Hasan (Director, Centre of Cardiology) said that OCT helps in optimising angioplasty procedure in context of placement of stent and deployment. “It is an imaging technique that uses coherent light to capture micrometer-resolution, two- and three-dimensional images from within optical scattering media,” pointed Prof Hasan adding that the introduction of this technique in JNMC will provide patients from lower economic strata with affordable options. 

Dr Viveka Kumar (Max Hospital, Saket, New Delhi), Prof M U Rabbani and Dr Malik Azharuddin also spoke on the occasion.
